چکیده

Automatic Failure-Path Inference (AFPI) is an application-generic, automatic technique for dynamically discovering the failure dependency graphs of componentized Internet applications. AFPI’s first phase is invasive, and relies on controlled fault injection to determine failure propagation; this phase requires no a priori knowledge of the application and takes on the order of hours to run. Once the system is deployed in production, the second, non-invasive phase of AFPI passively monitors the system, and updates the dependency graph as new failures are observed. This process is a good match for the perpetually-evolving software found in Internet systems; since no performance overhead is introduced, AFPI is feasible for live systems. We applied AFPI to J2EE and tested it by injecting Java exceptions into an e-commerce application and an online auction service. The resulting graphs of exception propagation are more detailed and accurate than what could be derived by time-consuming manual inspection or analysis of readily-available static application descriptions.

JAGR: An Autonomous Self-Recovering Application Server

This paper demonstrates that the dependability of generic, evolving J2EE applications can be enhanced through a combination of a few recovery-oriented techniques. Our goal is to reduce downtime by automatically and efficiently recovering from a broad class of transient software failures without having to modify applications. We describe here the integration of three new techniques into JBoss, a...

Improvement of the Reliability of Automatic Manufacture Systems by Using FTA Technique

In recent years, Many manufacturing industries for promoting their efficiency have tended to use the automatic manufacturing systems. Expanding automatic systems and to increase their complexity are representing the necessity of studying a proper functional quality and using reliable equipment in such systems more than ever. In this direction, the technique of fault tree analysis (FTA), along w...

Ensembles of extremely randomized trees and some generic applications

In this paper we present a new tree-based ensemble method called “Extra-Trees”. This algorithm averages predictions of trees obtained by partitioning the inputspace with randomly generated splits, leading to significant improvements of precision, and various algorithmic advantages, in particular reduced computational complexity and scalability. We also discuss two generic applications of this a...
